Fans of Tom Holland were surprised by a seemingly cryptic post shared by the actor on the social networking platform X, hinting at a collaboration with the cryptocurrency platform Binance on April 16.
Known primarily for his portrayal of Spider-Man in the Marvel franchise, Tom Holland has often captured the spotlight for his work in films. However, the latest buzz surrounding the actor involves an online scam that he inadvertently found himself entangled in. It was reported that Tom Holland’s X account was compromised by hackers, who attempted to promote cryptocurrency investments using his identity.
Fans were left bewildered when Tom Holland seemingly endorsed a merger with the cryptocurrency platform Binance in a now-deleted post on social media platform X on April 16. The post encouraged his followers to register for early access to a new digital currency named $SPIDER coin and Spiderverse NFTs, purportedly associated with a SpiderVerse project.
Given Tom Holland’s reputation for maintaining a low profile on social media, the unexpected promotion of cryptocurrency through his account caused confusion among his fanbase. Consequently, many of his followers speculated that his account had been compromised. Furthermore, a stranger’s selfie briefly surfaced on Tom Holland’s X profile, hinting at a potential hacker intrusion.
Expressing concern over the actor’s involvement in promoting cryptocurrency, one fan remarked, “Wait, so Tom wasn’t serious about the NFT BS thing?! Oh, thank goodness because I was about to get heartbroken by that post and also damn that sucks.” Another fan clarified, “Guys, Tom Holland does not own the rights to Spiderverse. Marvel does. This is clearly some kind of hack or other scam.”

Meanwhile, Tom Holland is set to make his stage debut in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The actor will portray Romeo in the production scheduled to run from May to August 2024 in London. Alongside Tom Holland, Francesca Amewudah-Rivers has been cast as Juliet, the female lead. Francesca previously appeared in two seasons of Bad Education, a BBC sitcom from 2012.
Following the cast announcement, the production team faced a wave of racial abuse and promptly condemned the perpetrators. Jamie Lloyd Company released a statement, denouncing the racial abuse directed at a member of their company following the ‘Romeo & Juliet’ cast reveal. The production also features Freema Agyeman, Michael Balogun, Tomiwa Edun, Mia Jerome, Daniel Quinn-Toye, and Ray Sesay.
