Utilizing the “World ID” protocol, which validates humanness using zero-knowledge proofs, Worldcoin, an initiative aimed at differentiating humans from AI, has unveiled a crypto wallet that operates without gas fees, strictly for validated humans, as stated in an announcement made on May 8.

The newly launched wallet, aptly named “World App,” is compatible with Android and iOS systems. It currently operates on the Polygon network (MATIC), enabling users to manage and transfer a range of digital assets, including United States Dollar Coin (USDC), Dai (DAI), Ether (ETH), Worldcoin (WLD), and Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC).

The World App leverages the “World ID” system from the Worldcoin project to discern between humans and bots. To enjoy the benefits of gas-free transfers, users need to initially register for a World ID, either by providing a phone number or undergoing an iris scan. Developers reassure that user data is not stored. Rather, a zero-knowledge proof is generated to validate the user’s humanness, without exposing the data used to create the proof.

Those without a World ID are still able to use the app, albeit without the privilege of feeless transactions. The announcement elucidated that the app employs account abstraction to permit third-party gas payment.

The project has formed alliances with regulated cryptocurrency exchanges, including Moonpay and Ramp, to facilitate user onboarding and offboarding directly within the wallet. Once coins are deposited in the wallet, users can swap them via the integrated Uniswap feature. Additionally, users can link their phone numbers to the app, allowing them to send and receive crypto through their phone contacts.

In an exchange with Cointelegraph, Tiago Sada, a member of the Worldcoin Core team, shared that the World App was developed to provide an uncomplicated option for novice crypto users.

He noted that initial attempts at providing standard wallets, the kind that regular users like him would use daily, proved too complex for the average person, with an overwhelming array of options and tasks. Hence, the World App was introduced as a solution, offering a simpler, more user-focused wallet.

Worldcoin is the brainchild of Sam Altman, who also co-founded OpenAI, the development team behind ChatGPT.

Understanding the significance of Worldcoin’s initiative requires a closer look at the functionality and importance of the “World ID” protocol. The zero-knowledge proofs utilized in this protocol demonstrate a compelling use case for privacy in blockchain technology. By verifying a user’s identity without revealing sensitive information, Worldcoin aims to bring more security and trust into the blockchain ecosystem.

Moreover, the wallet’s gas-free transfer feature for verified humans could revolutionize the way individuals interact with cryptocurrencies, especially for those deterred by transaction costs. This could potentially increase mass adoption of cryptocurrencies.

Lastly, it’s important to note that while Worldcoin focuses on simplicity, they still maintain the ability for users to interact with complex DeFi platforms, like Uniswap, which may open the doors to more advanced financial activities for a broader audience. This delicate balance between user-friendliness and advanced functionality makes the World App a unique addition to the crypto wallet market.
