Every epoch witnesses its successor generation’s disputes and critiques. Still, Gen Z, those birthed between the fading years of the 1900s and the dawn of the 2000s, voice a particularly severe indictment: their forebears have set them on a course towards a grim future.
Frequently referred to as “Zoomers,” this demographic, shaped by their internet-era upbringing, has grappled with sudden lifestyle adaptations due to global health crises and educational disruptions. These major upheavals, occurring during critical stages of their development, have had profound implications on these 68 million Americans.
Many Zoomers are still in the process of grasping the gravity of the economic missteps that they’ve inherited. As they come of age, they’ll inevitably have to grapple with the financial fallouts of prior generations.
However, their situation isn’t without recourse. Gen Z possesses a powerful instrument for redressal: Bitcoin. Instead of attempting to restore a crumbling financial system riddled with its inherent inequities, they have an opportunity to etch an indelible mark on history by employing Bitcoin to devise a robust, equitable, and righteous system.
Taking a cue from the “Greatest Generation” who breathed new life into America after battling massive threats, Gen Z can transform their justified feelings of disillusionment into a constructive legacy worth bequeathing to their descendants.
IN AN UNFORTUNATE SITUATION
Gen Z, often dubbed “the loneliest generation,” feels forsaken by their forebears, who neglected to ensure a prosperous future for them. They are persistently bombarded with foreboding narratives about environmental, racial, and economic crises, leading them to believe that their future has been squandered by individuals reluctant to tackle these problems.
However, this perspective is somewhat skewed. While their future does seem threatened, the culprits are not merely environmental detractors or racial agitators. The real villains are the global administrators who, cognizant of the looming system failure, lacked the guts to address it, thereby wasting the financial and cultural inheritance of the Greatest Generation.
To distract attention, Zoomers are subjected to distressing propaganda that instills a pervasive “climate anxiety.” Instead of encouraging them to innovate and problem-solve, they are laden with guilt for the world’s predicaments.
The repercussion of this strategy is a mounting mental health crisis among Zoomers, marked by a worrying surge in suicide, depression, anxiety, and a pervasive sense of existential fear.
THE DAWN OF REALIZATION
In spite of these formidable challenges, an increasing subset of Generation Z is starting to glimpse a ray of hope as they navigate through the ruins of the education system and enter the professional world.
THE STEEP ASCENT
Gen Z faces a towering fiscal and monetary crisis. With the national debt reaching a staggering $31 trillion and unfunded liabilities exceeding $187 trillion, conventional solutions such as political activism or voting seem largely insufficient to tackle these issues.
CAN BITCOIN BE THE SOLUTION?
Being digital natives, Zoomers have always been quick to adapt to new technologies. Raised in an era of relentless digital stimuli, they’re skilled at adopting novel tech and using it to create novel content, apps, and social experiences. This technological inclination makes Bitcoin a potentially enticing alternative to traditional financial systems.
THE ROAD TO RECOVERY
While Bitcoin does offer a sliver of hope for Zoomers, they need to brace themselves for the uphill journey towards creating a balanced and emancipated society. This journey demands self-guided learning to counterbalance the deficiencies in formal education, and organizing their communities using secure communication channels in the face of potential surveillance and censorship.
They’re faced with the daunting task of rectifying decades of fiscal negligence and its detrimental consequences on their freedoms and their cultural identity. Although they didn’t invite these challenges, the opportunity to restore society using Bitcoin could be the silver lining they need. It promises to be a rocky road, but the destination holds immense promise.
